Clinical Sport Psychology combines applied evidence-based techniques with clinical mental health care to assist athletes in improving athletic performance and safely returning to the playing field after injury.

Sport Psychology is a sub-specialty of Clinical Psychology that focuses on the mental health and well-being of athletes as well as their recovery from injury and concussion. Athletes who suffer from depression, eating disorders or substance abuse may also choose to use a clinical sport psychologist, especially when their problems are affecting their athletic performance and their daily lives.

Our Clinical Sport Psychologists are licensed in clinical psychology, specialize in the diagnosis and management of concussions, and are Credentialed ImPACT Consultants (CIC), having received extensive training in the interpretation of the only FDA Cleared programs for concussion management, ImPACT(R) and ImPACT Pediatric. With over 15 years of specialized training in concussions and over 10 years of clinical practice as CIC, our providers utilize ImPACT baseline testing and post-injury assessments to guide the development of individualized treatment plans. They work collaboratively with our Neurologists, Sports Medicine Physicians and Neuro-Optometrists as well as community athletic trainers, sports nutritionists, and physiatrists to provide concussion treatment and mental health services. In accordance with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's concussion legislation, our Clinical Sport Psychologists are qualified to make return-to-play decisions.

In addition to concussion diagnosis and management, our Clinical Sport Psychologists can specialize in the following areas of athletic performance:

  • Stress Management and Coping
  • Counseling and Emotional Regulation
  • Goal Setting and Peak Performance Counseling
  • Psychological Skills Training
  • Concentration Training and Pre-Shot Routines
