How the Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center Is Leading...

Director, Linda Fabrizio Mazzoli, speaks at the 2017 NATA conference about improving patient care and how athletic trainers can get involved.

Houston, TX - This past weekend, Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center Director, Linda Fabrizio Mazzoli, spoke at the National Athletic Trainers' Association annual conference, an event that attracts over 10,000 athletic trainers each year, about their role in an evolving healthcare environment. The message was clear--the future of healthcare delivery is rapidly changing and providers of all levels need to get involved.

Mazzoli, an athletic trainer by trade, based the extent of her talk on the idea of Value-Based Healthcare Delivery, or more simply, healthcare transformed to improve patient recovery and outcomes. As director of a comprehensive team, she pointed to the concussion center as a leader in this delivery model.

"Building a program of specialists around one medical condition enables us to deliver better patient care and ultimately, better patient outcomes," said Mazzoli. "We are able to show value in bringing specialists together under one roof to work as a team. Patient care does not fit in a mold, especially when it comes to a brain injury. Athletic trainers have the unique, multidisciplinary medical background that lends them to be adaptable team members in this type of model."

The Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center is a collaboration of specialists from Jefferson, Rothman Institute, and Wills Eye Hospital. Read more about the center here.
