Sideline Assessments

Athletes participating in organized sports are susceptible to various practice and competition injuries, including concussions. Many schools, professional sports, and sports organizations now mandate athletic trainer or physician coverage at sporting events. Licensed, certified athletic trainers or physicians act as the onsite healthcare provider for potential injuries, and are equipped to perform many sideline concussion evaluations in the event of a possible concussion. Athletic trainers and physicians use the results of sideline evaluations to determine whether an athlete is safe to return to play or needs further evaluation by a physician. If your athlete is removed from play, most states will require a note from a physician to fully clear them for return to play.
