Neurological assessment after concussion should be performed by a medical professional and include a detailed physical examination to verify cognitive function. Physicians will look at speech, memory and mental status; hearing, sight and smell; as well as basic movements of the head and body through assessment of the following:
- Cranial Nerves
- Gait Testing
- Higher Functions
- Motor Examinations
- Reflex Testing
- Sensory Examinations
Disfunction in these areas give the physician feedback about potential injury and guide next steps in a clinical exam.
